Moving With Pets

Moving with a pet may have more details than you can imagine.  There are many things that you need to do to get your pet prepared for a move.  A move can be a very traumatic experience for an array of pets and you want to make sure that you take all of the necessary steps to prevent them from having a hard time with the transition.

Pets get used to an environment and routine and they know what to expect each day.  If this gets interrupted you can see behavioral or other problems in your pet. This is why it is important that each pet has their own moving boxes so that all of their familiar items are packed and they can be immediately accessed from your new place.

Your pet may be very curious about all of the moving boxes and if you are moving a short distance away, you may want to consider having your pet stay at a family members home, or a daycare while you are in the transition phase.  This will help you empty the moving boxes with your pets belongings and help you to have your pet ready for their return to the new house.

Cats and dogs may be in the way during a move and this is another reason you may want to board them during this time.  You will also need to keep the doors open to move things in and out and you do not want your cat or dog to escape.  This is especially true if you have just moved to a new place. Your pet may not know their surroundings yet and they can easily find themselves in trouble.

Other pets need special care when transporting.  If you have any animals that need an aquarium you will want to make sure that you gain the knowledge to transport them safely.  Fish are very vulnerable during a move and can sometimes go into shock if they are not handled very delicately.  You can talk to your local veterinarian about how to do this properly; there should also be an array of resources on the internet that can help you to transport your pet safely.

Pets need special care when moving.  If you assign each pet moving boxes, it can help keep everything organized and easy to find when you get into your new home.  If you do a little research you can easily find out how to move your pet safely.
